Freezing Homemade Pizza - Our Recipe
Get ready to bake a delicious homemade pizza with this simple recipe, perfect for freezing. This way, you can always enjoy the taste of a freshly prepared pizza.
Ingredients for the dough:
- 500 g flour (type 550)
- 300 ml lukewarm water
- 1 packet dry yeast (7 g)
- 2 tsp salt
- 1 tsp sugar
- 2 tbsp olive oil
Ingredients for the topping:
- 200 g strained tomatoes
- 1 tsp oregano
- 1 tsp basil
- Salt and pepper
- 250 g grated mozzarella
- Any toppings of your choice (e.g., salami, ham, mushrooms, peppers, olives)
Instructions:
- Prepare the dough: In a large bowl, mix the flour with dry yeast, salt, and sugar. Add the lukewarm water and olive oil and knead everything into a smooth dough. Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour until it has roughly doubled in size.
- Roll out the dough: Briefly knead the risen dough again on a floured surface. Then divide the dough into 4 equal portions and roll out each portion into a round pizza.
- Pre-bake the pizza: Preheat the oven to 200°C (fan oven 180°C). Place the rolled-out pizza bases on a baking sheet lined with baking paper and pre-bake in the preheated oven for approx. 5-7 minutes until they just begin to firm up.
- Prepare the topping: While the bases are pre-baking, season the strained tomatoes with oregano, basil, salt, and pepper.
- Top the pizzas: Remove the pre-baked pizza bases from the oven, spread with tomato sauce, and top with mozzarella and other toppings as desired.
- Finish baking or freezing: If you want to eat the pizza immediately, return it to the oven and bake for another 10-15 minutes until the cheese is melted and lightly browned. To freeze the pizza, let the topped but not fully baked pizzas cool completely.
- Prepare for freezing: Wrap the cooled pizzas individually in cling film and then in aluminum foil. The wrapped pizzas can then be stored in freezer bags or an airtight container in the freezer.
- Thaw and finish baking: To consume, thaw the frozen pizza overnight in the refrigerator and then bake in a preheated oven at 200°C (fan oven 180°C) for about 10-15 minutes until hot and crispy.
