What is green asparagus?
As the name suggests, green asparagus is a green variety of asparagus. It is low in calories and a good source of vitamins A, C, and K. Green asparagus also contains antioxidants and prebiotic fiber. This variety of asparagus is usually harvested in spring. It has a slightly sweeter taste than white or purple asparagus. When selecting green asparagus, look for firm spears with closed tips. Avoid spears that are limp or have open, frizzy tips. To store, wrap the ends of the spears in a damp paper towel and place them in a plastic bag in the refrigerator. Green asparagus can be eaten cooked or raw. It can be steamed, boiled, grilled, or roasted. Green asparagus can also be used in soups, salads, and main dishes. Combine it with lemon juice, Parmesan cheese, or hollandaise sauce. When prepared correctly, green asparagus should be tender but still crisp.
Can you freeze green asparagus?
Green asparagus is a delicious and healthy vegetable that can be enjoyed all year round if frozen correctly. However, asparagus is a very perishable vegetable, so it is generally not recommended to freeze it. But if you have an excess of asparagus, freezing it is better than wasting it. When freezing asparagus, it is important to blanch the asparagus spears first. This helps to preserve their color and consistency. To blanch asparagus, simply bring a pot of water to a boil and immerse the asparagus in the water for two minutes.Recommendation: For environmentally conscious freezing of your green asparagus, we recommend the right freezer containers with glass lids.

After blanching, immediately transfer the asparagus to a bowl of ice water. Once cooled, drain the asparagus and pat it dry with a paper towel. Then trim off the woody ends and cut the asparagus to the desired length. Finally, place the asparagus on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and freeze for about two hours. Once frozen, transfer the asparagus to a freezer bag and store it in the freezer for up to six months. This way, you can enjoy delicious, healthy green asparagus all winter long!
